The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are witnessing the rise of a mystery spinner, Digvesh Rathi, whose dream came true on Sunday, April 6. The young spinner finally got to meet his idol, Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) legendary Sunil Narine, at the iconic Eden Gardens. The match was supposed to happen on Sunday, but it was rescheduled to Tuesday, April 8, due to the Ram Navami celebrations in Kolkata.
Digvesh, who has been one of LSGโs most exciting finds this season, has quickly earned his spot in the team with his bowling prowess. Much like his idol Narine, Digvesh has a variety of tricks up his sleeve when it comes to spinning the ball. With six wickets in four matches so far, including a Player of the Match performance in LSG’s win over Mumbai Indians, his career seems to be on an upward trajectory.
But on Sunday, it wasnโt just wickets that were on Digveshโs mind. It was a chance to meet the man who inspired him to take up the sport. Rishabh Pant, the dynamic captain of LSG, made this special moment happen by introducing Digvesh to Sunil Narine. Nicholas Pooran, LSGโs own star, was quick to mention how Digvesh often looks up to Narine. It didnโt take long for Pooran to tease Digvesh with a question that left everyone in splits.

“He doesn’t celebrate, why do you celebrate?” asked Pooran.
Digvesh, in his signature witty style, replied, “I’m from Delhi.”
The moment was pure comedy gold as Narine and the others burst into laughter. Pant, never one to miss a chance for a joke, teased Digvesh, calling him the ‘ticket collector’ while Narine was the ‘wicket collector.’ The fun didnโt end there, though. Digvesh, in all seriousness, credited Narine for inspiring his love for bowling and expressed his desire to adopt Narine’s calm and aggressive approach to the game.
“Since the time I watched Sunil Narine bowl, I started enjoying my bowling. I want to be more attacking in terms of mindset like Sunil Narine has been over the years. He stays very calm in pressure situations and I want to work on that and be like that,” said Digvesh.
Itโs clear that the bond between the rising star and his idol is more than just admiration. Itโs a friendship built on respect, humor, and a shared love for the game.
