Big news coming in from the IPL 2025 camp! After Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury blow, MS Dhoni is back at the helm as the captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK). With Gaikwad ruled out due to an elbow injury, CSK had no choice but to bring back the legend, who has led the team to glory multiple times in the past. This decision comes after a series of ups and downs in CSK’s leadership journey.
MS Dhoni, who has already guided CSK to a record-tying five IPL titles, had handed over the captaincy to Ravindra Jadeja in 2022. However, after a disappointing run, Jadeja stepped down from the role, and Dhoni took charge once again. With the 17th season underway, the captaincy was passed on to Gaikwad, but now, due to unforeseen circumstances, Dhoni is back to lead the team once again.
Former Indian cricketer and RCB legend, Murali Kartik, spoke about the situation on Cricbuzz. He explained,
“They (CSK) tried to nourish Ravindra Jadeja for a year but that didn’t work. The script came back to MS Dhoni. God writes different scripts for him. This time as well, CSK have to go back to Dhoni because he is a big name,”
adding that CSK has lost their main batter in Gaikwad, which is a huge setback for the team.
Although Gaikwad was in excellent form in IPL 2023 and 2024, averaging 42.14 and 53 with the bat, his absence creates a void in the CSK lineup that will be hard to fill. His injury has shaken up the team’s momentum, especially with CSK currently struggling in the tournament. After a promising start with a win over Mumbai Indians, CSK has failed to build on that momentum, sitting at the ninth spot in the points table after losing four out of five games.
Now, MS Dhoni is all set to lead the side in the upcoming clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. With CSK looking to find their form again, all eyes will be on Dhoni as he looks to guide the team back to winning ways in IPL 2025.
