The IPL 2025 season just got hotter! On April 12, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), led by Rishabh Pant, pulled off a stunning 6-wicket victory against Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans (GT) in Match 26. This thrilling contest took place at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, where LSG chased down 180/6 with 3 balls to spare, handing GT their first loss in a while.
LSG won the toss and decided to bowl first, a decision that seemed a bit off early on as GT’s openers, Gill and Sai Sudharsan, hammered fifties, giving the Titans a solid foundation. But LSG’s bowlers bounced back, restricting GT to 180/6, and the chase was set!
GT’s Solid Start, But LSG’s Comeback: Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan were in no mood to hang around, as they put together a fantastic 120-run opening partnership. Sudharsan (56 off 37 balls) and Gill (60 off 38 balls) both found boundaries with ease, taking full advantage of the powerplay. But the LSG bowlers, led by Shardul Thakur (2/34), turned things around after the opening stand. The visitors only managed to score 60 runs in the final eight overs, as LSG’s fast bowlers took charge.
LSG Chases with Style: Rishabh Pant, stepping up in the absence of Mitchell Marsh, opened the innings with Aiden Markram. Despite Pant’s early dismissal, the two put on a solid 65-run opening stand. Markram (50) also got out, but in-form Nicholas Pooran turned the game on its head. Pooran smashed 61 runs off just 34 balls, keeping the pressure on GT with his aggressive hitting. Although he was dismissed by Rashid Khan, Pooran had already done the damage, and LSG were on their way to their third consecutive win.
The chase was finished off by Ayush Badoni, who contributed with a quick-fire 28 off 20 balls. GT’s bowlers, particularly Rashid Khan and Prasidh Krishna, struggled to make an impact. Even Gill’s captaincy came under scrutiny, as he only allowed Arshad Khan, the most economical bowler for GT, to bowl just two overs.
What’s Next for GT? This loss means Gujarat Titans lose their top spot on the IPL 2025 points table, as LSG rise to claim the crown. It’s a huge win for Rishabh Pant’s men, but GT’s top-order and captaincy will need to reassess their strategy as the season heats up.
