The IPL 2025 Orange Cap race is getting hotter and Nicholas Pooran is proving that he’s the man to beat! The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batter reclaimed the Orange Cap after briefly losing it to Gujarat Titans’ Sai Sudharsan. Pooran, known for his aggressive batting style, blasted seven massive sixes in his quick-fire 61 off 34 balls, leading LSG to a thrilling chase of 181 with three balls to spare and six wickets in hand.
While Pooran holds the top spot, there’s action all around with some big names creeping up the rankings. Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer entered the top 5 with a scintillating 82 off 36 balls. Despite his performance, Abhishek Sharma of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) is still outside the top 10, despite an incredible 141 off 55 balls against PBKS, which is a record-breaking feat!
Here’s a look at the top contenders for the Orange Cap in IPL 2025:
Position | Player | Runs | Innings | High Score | Average | Strike Rate |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1. | Nicholas Pooran (LSG) | 349 | 6 | 87 | 69.80 | 215.43 |
2. | Sai Sudharsan (GT) | 329 | 6 | 82 | 54.83 | 151.61 |
3. | Mitchell Marsh (LSG) | 265 | 5 | 81 | 53.00 | 180.27 |
4. | Shreyas Iyer (PBKS) | 250 | 5 | 97* | 83.33 | 208.33 |
5. | Jos Buttler (GT) | 218 | 6 | 73* | 43.60 | 157.97 |
In the race outside the top 5, we saw some impressive performances too. SRH’s opener Travis Head came close to overtaking Buttler, scoring a superb 63 off 37 balls. Head now sits at 6th with 214 runs in 6 innings. GT’s Shubman Gill is right behind with 208 runs in 6 innings.
Meanwhile, LSG’s Aiden Markram made his way into the top 10 with a 31-ball 58, pushing his total to 202 runs from 6 innings. However, despite a mind-blowing 141 off 55 balls, SRH’s Abhishek Sharma remains stuck at 12th position. The question remains: Can Sharma make his way into the top 10 soon?
It’s not just about the top 5 – several other heavyweights have the chance to get into the mix. Mumbai Indians’ (MI) Suryakumar Yadav, who is currently at 10th with 199 runs, will look to make a move in the upcoming match against Delhi Capitals (DC). DC’s KL Rahul, who is in 15th place, also has the chance to rise up the ranks in his first match in Delhi this season. Don’t forget about the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) duo, Rajat Patidar and Virat Kohli, who are tied at 186 runs each and could break into the top 5 as well!
As the IPL 2025 season heats up, it’s clear that the battle for the Orange Cap is going to be one for the books!
