Deepak Chahar, the swing bowling sensation from Mumbai Indians (MI), is gearing up for his highly anticipated return to national cricket. With IPL 2025 just around the corner, Chahar has made some interesting comparisons between his journey and that of MI’s star pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, as they head into their upcoming clash against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
Chahar, who has struggled with injuries in recent years, believes that his skills are still top-notch and he’s ready to make his comeback. The 32-year-old bowler has faced a tough period of injury setbacks, but he remains optimistic about his return to the national side. In his own words, Chahar shared:
“Yes, I think, I have had injuries, in the last 3 years, I have had a lot of injuries, but, I am not the only one, there are a lot of other players who are injured,”
Chahar’s perspective on dealing with injuries is refreshingly positive. He emphasizes the importance of a strong mindset, pointing out that self-doubt can be a major hurdle for any player. Chahar stresses that staying mentally strong is key, especially when you’re recovering from an injury. He also shared an interesting thought about how his experience aligns with Bumrah’s:
“Jassi also had a back injury. I also had a back injury. I can understand what problems he has to face. At the end of the day, it’s a team game. But at the same time, it’s an individual game also. You have to take care of your body. If you are injured, you will be out of the team. The feel is different for each player.”
Chahar also took a moment to praise Bumrah’s mental resilience, which he believes is one of the main factors in Bumrah’s incredible recovery:
“Only then he will be able to play again. He is very strong-willed. You saw his bowling in the first match after three months, you can see his class. It had a big impact.”
Both Deepak Chahar and Jasprit Bumrah are key players for Mumbai Indians this season, and with the MI vs DC match approaching, fans are eagerly waiting to see how both pacers will perform after their respective injury comebacks. Will Chahar rise to the occasion like Bumrah did? Only time will tell!
