Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson has opened up about his team’s disappointing 58-run loss against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in their IPL 2025 clash. Samson, reflecting on the match, admitted that his team was undone by a combination of factors, including a few extra runs conceded by the bowlers and a crucial wicket loss at the wrong moment.
According to Samson, the key turning point came during the chase, when RR needed 217 runs to win. He was dismissed in the 13th over by Prasidh Krishna, a moment that he believes marked the beginning of their downfall. RR struggled to form partnerships throughout the chase, with GT bowlers consistently applying pressure, taking wickets at regular intervals. Despite fighting knocks from Shimron Hetmyer (52) and Samson (41), RR was unable to recover.
The Gujarat Titans had posted a daunting total of 217/6, thanks to a solid performance by Sudharsan, who scored 82 off 53 balls, along with quick-fire contributions from Jos Buttler (36), Shahrukh Khan (36), and Rahul Tewatia (24). These explosive cameos ensured that RR’s bowlers had their work cut out for them.
As the match progressed, RR’s chase faltered, with wickets falling at regular intervals, and their hopes of a successful run-chase fading away. Looking ahead, Sanju Samson and his team will now face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the 28th match of IPL 2025, scheduled to take place at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
RR’s next match will be crucial as they look to bounce back and stay in the race for the playoffs.
